Our tech-loving ladies became very thrilled as they heard the news that Rails Girls will be heading their way here in Manila! This will be the first ever Rails Girls event in the Philippines.

Originally born in Finland, Rails Girls is every girl’s friend to get started with tech. If you are a girl who is crazy about the multifaceted world of technology, then become one of the Rails Girls. With Rails Girls, you can up your knowledge and skills in sketching, prototyping and basic programming. This is an all-girl power organization that aims to support every woman in the technological field by giving them the necessary tools and through building a community.

It’s not about gender,” emphasized Katherine Pe, coach for Rails Girls SG. Katherine believes that learning how to code has nothing to do with gender. She’s not persistent with the idea that Rails Girls Manila will not only be a girls-only event. She understands how challenging the tech world is for girls since it is a largely male-dominated field.
Imagine a co-working space or a company with about 99% males. The implication is that something is deeply wrong about the perception of girls who code. The challenge is knowing what to do given that perception,Katherine added. Rails Girls want to spread the rails-love around by not having a girls-only group. In fact, they are looking and encouraging mentors of any gender to help them out in learning this particular Ruby on Rails.

Rails Girls helps every girl to muster great experiences on building things and by making technology more approachable. And here’s what you’ve been waiting for. Rails Girls will provide you that great experience on November 23 and 24 at Unit 2701 in the 27th floor of Discovery Suites 25 ADB Avenue, Ortigas Center, Pasig City.

The organizers for this upcoming event are Katherine Pe, Marica Uchida, Jonathan Richie Yap, Terence Ponce, and Haifa Carina. The Rails Girls coaches are Bryan Bibat, Radamanthus Batnag, Buddy Magsipoc, Nico Suria, Nestor Pestelo and Cecil Manalag. Jezrel Jane Himbing is the social media manager and the speaker will be Maricris Nonato.
