City life is stressful; traffics, accident prone areas and vehicular dilemmas are at hand. Transit accessibility of city areas, calculating best route, fare and time of trip, adapting to route changes and navigating the city are some of the MUST considered things when it comes to road stuff.
Department of Transport and Communication in partnership with the Metro Manila Development Authority and Cebu City Government, will host the first national transport app development competition. WebGeek is present and actively participating in this event. Everyone is invited and convened to develop application based on two new kinds of open data; first is made publicly available by the agencies and second is concerning location and service information as well as traffic incident streams in Manila and Cebu City. By a 3-month development period participants will work with volunteer mentors to build innovative solutions for the transportation challenges.
The new Philippine transit service will provide that raw data needed to finally communicate transit route location and service information across all modes of transit- rails, bus, and jeepney in Metro Manila. Helping citizens to find the best combination of means of transport to get from A to B- including all available means of public transportation, optimizing key transfer locations and enabling Multi-modal trip planning.
The data in the Philippine transit information service, in addition to travel time data that can be collected with the transit Wand application adopted by DOTC, could feasibly be used to utilized and identify maps of transit accessibility.
This competition is open to all (developers, designers, users with ideas etc). Focusing on the use of the publicly available data related on transportation means. It is a great form to motivate app creators. It is free and open to all platforms.
Finalist will be selected through a combination of online voting and decisions of judging panel. Finalist will have their awards such as, Conclusive Technology Awards, Transport Agency Awards, Philippine Transit Information Service Award (for best use of GTFS database), and Open Community Award.
